A little bit on "understanding".

The word “understanding” has almost a vacuous meaning in our society. When I advocate for understanding across layers of privilege in our society, I’m not saying one should necessarily agree with the person they're trying to understand. I’m talking about deep, rigorous comprehension of the psychological, sociological, historical, and evolutionary context in which people are shaped. We often judge instead of understand. Understanding is power. Understand up and understand down.
